Oxidation of Glycerol in Base-Free Aqueous Solution Using Carbon-Supported Pt and PtSn Catalyst

In the present work, we studied catalytic performance (activity and selectivity) of Pt supported on carbon systems modified with tin in glycerol oxidation H2O2 as oxidising agent at atmospheric pressure, 60 °C, base-free conditions. The conversion obtained monometallic catalyst was 37% remained unchanged addition Sn a ratio Sn/Pt = 0.4. two bimetallic PtSn catalysts were able to oxidise commercial dihydroxyacetone (DHA), selectivity DHA reached 97% for better conversion. reaction crude glycerol, around 40% three catalysts, major product observed glyceric acid. Both acid are high added value products potential applications different areas such organic chemistry, medical cosmetics industries.
